Our data protection products are managed appliances.  They can generally be installed  as VM guests (with Linux KVM or VirtualBox) or directly to hardware.  In both cases you need 64 Bit CPUs capable of hardware acceleration (on AMD, the svm flag needs to be present and on Intel the vmx flag needs to be present- you may also have to enable this feature in your BIOS).

All appliances:

Data Protection Appliance - Advanced

(Model: DPA-A)

Description:

DPA is a double or single stage system that can support Microsoft file sharing (SMB/CIFS), NFS and SSH connections (e.g. SCP, SFTP or SSHfs).  User accounts can be internal to the server or the server can authenticate against anything that a Samba 3.x server can use (when using Microsoft file sharing).  Your data is protected by automatically creating snapshots when there are changes to the filesystem (including deletions) and replicating those changes to an encrypted container offsite.

Uses:

  • Replacement for basic file sharing servers where robust data protection is desired.
  • Deployments along side current servers for offsite replication of specific data.
  • Deployments into non-server or distributed environments to immediately centralize and protect data.
  • Satisfy business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Provide data security & protection in environments where physical controls are weak (e.g. lightweight structures, public areas, shared office spaces, etc.)
Features:
  • Versioning and replication technologies are integrated into the device layer which increases data throughput.
  • 3rd party products like open file managers are not needed because only disk block data is replicated.
  • Replicated data is consistent and current to the last successful disk sync.
  • Document versioning allows for more precise file recovery and can be done from either the source or mirrored disk.  This includes restoring deleted files which is significantly faster than tape systems.
  • Replicating document versions provides a framework for being able to eliminate a tape back up system and associated costs.
  • File shares are available for read and write operations during file recovery.
  • Only block changes are replicated once the initial sync is complete.
  • The mirrored drive can become primary for a network rebuild of shares in case of a disaster.  Data can also be shipped on a disk or made available via a secure connection.
  • The appliance can replicate data asynchronously so network latency during data sync, even on low bandwidth connections, does not effect performance.
  • The appliance will continue to run even when the mirrored disk is unavailable. Replication is restarted when the connection is re-established.
  • System is extensible and device agnostic.  Expansion is possible with any disk technology compatible with the appliance host hardware.  This protects your investment and eliminates the need to migrate to or maintain multiple storage technologies.
  • Blowfish-448 or better for data transport.
  • AES-256 or better for data storage.
  • In many cases the appliance can be combined with other products to add a higher level of data protection.
  • Storage size can be increased / decreased at any time but must match size of source disk.
  • Low TCO (total cost of ownership).

Cost:

Level I - $0.160/Gb per month for 1Tb of storage. Installation is $500

Level II - $0.075/Gb per month for 4Tb of storage. Installation is $500

Level III - $0.045/Gb per month for 16Tb of storage. Installation is $1000

Level IV - $0.040/Gb per month for 32Tb of storage. Installation is $1000

Please contact us to discuss custom builds or larger systems.

Changes in storage size can be adjusted to a higher amount within the same level at anytime (a prorated invoice will be generated rounded to the neareast whole month)

Changes in storage size may require a full re-sync

Data center fees, if any, are not included unless DAO is storing your data in our facilities.  Currently this only available for level I or II deployments.

Exact feature set depends on deployment

Data Protection Service

(Model: DPS)

Description:

DPS is not an appliance but a simple sync service for desktops or servers.  Your data is protected by replicating file changes to an encrypted container offsite but there is no file versioning.

Uses:

  • Single system offices and sole proprietors.  Only two small applications need to be installed.
  • Deployments along side current servers for offsite replication of specific data.
  • Deployments into non-server or distributed environments to immediately centralize and protect data.
  • Satisfy business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Provide data security & protection in environments where physical controls are weak (e.g. lightweight structures, public areas, shared office spaces, etc.)
Features:
  • Replication can be passive (scheduled), active (changes will be picked up automatically) or syncronous (e.g. every 30 minutes).
  • Blowfish-448 or better for data transport.
  • AES-256 or better for data storage.
  • Storage size can be increased / decreased at any time.
  • Very low TCO (total cost of ownership).

Cost:

$1/Gb per month for up to 50Gb of storage

5Gb minimum required

no installation fee
